Pricing
Often, customer state that they only paid $X for their item and why is shipping so expensive. Our shipping rates are based on the dimensions and weight of the items, now the value.
There are a few things to consider when setting our pricing.
- THE PICK UP - The items do not reside in our warehouse. We pick up items from auctions across south west Ontario. Some items are picked up as far away as Ottawa, London, Barrie, and St. Catherines. We use various methods to pick up items.
- THE PROCESSING - Everything that comes into our warehouse requires processing. Many of the boxes that come in are opened and inspected. Additional packaging materials and time to repack is required for most items being shipped using a third party delivery solution such as Canpar or UPS. Our processing also includes an effort to consolidate items or invoices to help the customer with the delivery costs.
- THE DELIVERY - Often with third parties and occasionally on our own trucks, this part of the delivery is provided directly at our cost, with no markup. We leverage our volumes and buy shipping direct from some of the most competitive carriers in their specialty areas. Some companies are great at big and bulky, some specialize in smaller items, and others are just in a single region.
- SIZE MATTERS - When pricing a delivery, we are charged different rates by different providers. Number of boxes, dimensional weight vs actual weight, and destination all play a key part in this pricing.
Other costs
Since there is no software for delivery in this industry, we developed our own software. The software you use to create your account is connected directly to the auction, our warehouse, and our drivers. This was not cheap and we see it as in investment into our industry.
Some auctions provide services such as having all items on pallets and ready for pick up. When the auction charges us for these additional handling costs, we made the difficult decision to pass those costs on to the final delivery customer. We reviewed paying them from our profits, but there is just not enough savings in our pick up process to absorb those costs.
Have you ever priced out warehouse space in Mississauga? Our location, near the Pearson Int'l Airport is one of our largest monthly costs. Along with our employees and other costs (third party delivery) we cannot do much to reduce the cost of your delivery.
Alternative
We are now open for pick up at our depot. This is a great option for some people and reduces the delivery cost by about 50%.
You can send us a shipping label and we will apply it to the box. Keep in mind that we still need to pack the items that we picked up for you.
